The 91stMonte Carlo rally 2023retains its traditional place on the2023 wrc calendaras the first round of the 2023 Championship.
For the second year in a row, it is based in Monaco with the service park in the glamourous harbour area and the starting ceremony outside the iconic Monte Carlo Casino. From there the crews set off to tackle two special stages around the Col de Turini, 60 kms to the north in the Alpes-Maritimes mountains.

Thursday 19th January

First up in the Monte Carlo rally 2023 maps on Thursday is La Bollène-Vésubie / Col de Turini. This is a new version of the famous Col de Turini, with a new starting point at Camp de Millo and ending at the col summit. This is then followed by La Cabanette / Col de Castillo, which is the longest stage of the weekend. This stage summits 5 cols in a row over 25 kms: Col de l’Orme (1000m), Col de l’Ablé (1149m), Col de Braus (1002m), Col Saint-Jean (642m) and Col de Castillon (706m).

Friday 20th

Friday starts with another iconic stage, Roure to Beuil, which passes over the Col de la Couillole, marking the highest point of this year’s rally. Next up is Puget-Théniers / Saint-Antonin, a new stage, taking in sections from stages from the past. Then it is the Briançonnet / Entrevaux stage, most of this stage has been used before, but not in this format.

Saturday 21st

Saturday starts the 2 loops of 3 stages with the Le Fugeret / Thorame-Haute test, run identically to 2022. Malijai / Puimichel runs in the same format as in 2020.There is a tyre fitting zone at Digneles-Bains before a nighttime pass of Ubraye / Entrevaux(an exact reverse of the stage used in 2017).

Sunday 22nd

Sunday’s stages are to the northeast of Alpes-Maritimes, with 2 passes each ofLucéram / Lantosque(ran last year ) and La Bollène-Vésubie / Col de Turini. The latter is a repeat of Thursday’s opening stage, making up 3 visits to this iconic stage the weekend, the second pass of the day forming the Wolf Power Stage.

Monte Carlo 2023 Sumamry

The Monte Carlo Rally 2023 is one of the most unpredictable rallies of the year where relatively straightforward asphalt roads in the French Alps are complicated by winter weather. With most stages climbing and / or ascending the areas cols the aspect and height of the road along with the time of day can make a large difference to the stage, even between morning and afternoon passes. Northerly facing slopes tend to remain very icy, with the southern facing slopes thawing providing more grip.
Stage conditions can vary dramatically at each starting point and throughout the stage with dry tarmac, wet tarmac, snow, and ice, sometimes present in a single stage). Because of all these factors this event places a big emphasis on tyre choice and strategy, the team must balance the need for grip on ice and snow with that on dry and wet tarmac.
