These High-Priced, Low-Mileage Car Listings Are Nuts (1)

Advertisem*nt

So you know how we usually have the dopest cars found for sale every week? This time we’re doing something a little different. The last month or so we’ve seen some questionable car listings online. From cars with stupid high prices to stuff that shouldn’t be listed as if it is more special than it really is, its been entertaining.

This week, lets take a little time to check out some of the absurd listings I’ve found browsing online lately. Think of these as the anti-dopest cars we found for sale online. They are still cool, but their specialness is lessened by their pricing. Feel free to disagree, though of course, I’m right.

2002 Chevy Camaro Z/28 - $43,999

2002 Chevy Camaro Z/28 - $43,999

These High-Priced, Low-Mileage Car Listings Are Nuts (2)

Ok this one might get a pass, but it’s still probably $15,000-$20,000 too much. A dealer called Red’s Auto & Truck in Longmont, Colorado has a 2002 Camaro Z/28 for sale. This isn’t your typical Z/28. Red’s says this is a rare Z/28 equipped with the special service police package. Its rare on multiple levels: Its six-speed manual transmission makes it one of just 125 made in 2002. Its Sunset Orange paint job also makes it just one of eight made in this color. Did I mention it has just 499 miles? All this can be yours for just $43,999. Personally, despite its rarities and mileage, I wouldn’t pay that much for an F-Body Camaro. That’s just me though.

KBB says a regular Z/28 coupe spec’d like this, with the same miles but without the police package, should be worth $14,000-$17,000. Similar ones have sold with more miles and complete in police getup for $18,000- low to mid $20,000 range.

2003 Ford Mustang Mach 1 - $42,000

These High-Priced, Low-Mileage Car Listings Are Nuts (3)

What you see here is a 2003 Ford Mustang Mach 1, one of four special editions the SN95 Mustang received before the Mustang’s 2005 redesign. Like most cars with prices like that, it’s hardly been driven over the last 20 years; it has just 62 miles on it. The seller, in the listing on Facebook’s Low Miles No Miles group, says it’s a unique spec. It’s one of 2,513 Mach 1's finished in this Torch Red exterior paint with a five-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. While it’s cool, that price is new Mustang GT money.

Values are a bit hard to gauge for this one. KBB says its worth $14,000-$17,000 in this condition with these miles. There’s a similar one for sale at a dealer in Miami with just 3,000 miles for just $2,100 more than this one. What’s more interesting is that this exact car sold on Bring A Trailer for $36,000 two years ago. That same month, a Mach 1 with 50 less miles sold for $2,000 less than what this example is going for now.

1999 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsberg - $4,200

1999 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsberg - $4,200

These High-Priced, Low-Mileage Car Listings Are Nuts (4)

Ignore the...interesting backdrop of this listing on Cincinnati’s Craigslist, and you’ll see someone asking just over $4,000 for a bucket of a Jetta from the turn of the century. The seller says that it has 120,000 miles, is rust free and has mostly been sitting for the last two years. The seller also mentions that while they originally bought it as a fuel friendly backup car in case gas prices went up (an interesting statement to make with a Hummer H1 sitting in your yard), the only reason they’re getting rid of it now is because they’ve purchased a new car.

KBB says this thing should only be worth $577-$1,070.

1996 Chevy Impala SS - $69,800

1996 Chevy Impala SS - $69,800

These High-Priced, Low-Mileage Car Listings Are Nuts (5)

Chicago Motor Cars, which if I’m remembering correctly from my Oppositelock days, is notorious for overpriced cars. The lot has this clean 1996 Impala SS listed for sale on E-bay of all places. So how is the dealer trying to justify a near $70,000 asking price on a near 30-year-old muscle car? It’s clean and in excellent condition! And it only has 5,000 miles! And that’s it.

Advertisem*nt

KBB doesn’t have any pricing info on this thing of course. But checking Bring A Trailer, you’ll see of the 50 Impala SS’ of this year that have sold on the site, none have ever sold for more than $40,000. The most expensive was an example with just 28 miles on it and it sold for $37,750 in the summer of 2021. Even on Cars & Bids, the most expensive sold for $25,500 and it had just over 24,000 miles.

1997 BMW 850CSI Euro Spec - $125,910

1997 BMW 850CSI Euro Spec - $125,910

These High-Priced, Low-Mileage Car Listings Are Nuts (6)

If you’re looking to spend a questionable amount of money on a unique European car, look no further than this Facebook Marketplace listed BMW 850CSI. The seller says this car was a European model that was imported to the states, federalized and is able to be registered in every state except California. So what’s so unique about this BMW 850CSI? The seller mentions that this car is in the M Registry and according to that, it’s the second to the last 850CSI that rolled off the production line.

Other than that it has a six-speed manual and a V12. Oh, and it’s a European spec as the seller mentioned, but its not exactly stated what makes this a specific Euro spec aside from it being from Europe. And for nearly $126,000 they’d have to cough up some official paperwork to show me before I’d believe any of that. And the mileage on this thing isn’t exactly low at 34,000. What looks to be this exact car sold on Bring a Trailer in December 2021 for $92,000.

2023 Tesla Model S Plaid Tsportline Limited Edtion - $170,000

2023 Tesla Model S Plaid Tsportline Limited Edtion - $170,000

These High-Priced, Low-Mileage Car Listings Are Nuts (7)

I have never heard of Tsportline in my life. And after some brief digging, I found that it’s a company that makes aftermarket accessories for Teslas. Apparently to celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary, they did a limited run of special edition Model Ss. Only 10 were ever made, and one of them is listed for sale on Ebay for $170,000 with 8,400 miles.

Advertisem*nt

In addition to the intense but questionable performance of the Model S Plaid, you get a carbon fiber aero package, custom forged wheels, an interior covered in Ferrari White and Ferrari Black (don’t ask me as to what Ferrari has to do with this) leather with a diamond quilt design, carbon fiber interior trim and a unique special edition plaque for the interior. Cool. But would you want to drop that kind of money on a special edition Tesla made by an aftermarket company not too many people have heard of?

This looks to be one of the most expensive Model S Plaids ever listed from my search. Ones listed for sale have never come close. The most expensive Plaid sold on BaT was a 2022 with 8,000 miles for $123,000 in November 2023. Even on Cars & Bids, an example with just 800 miles sold for $132,000 in the summer of 2021. This begs the question: are the mods on this Plaid worth the upcharge?

2007 Honda Element EX - $12,200

2007 Honda Element EX - $12,200

These High-Priced, Low-Mileage Car Listings Are Nuts (8)

The Honda Element was a unique lifestyle vehicle that would sell great if Honda offered a new one for sale today. Maybe that’s the reason why someone recently dropped over $12,000 for a 17-year-old example on Bring a Trailer. There’s nothing particularly exciting or special about this Element either. While the description said the auction had no reserve and that this Element has a clean history, it just looks like someone’s mom’s Element that she drives around living in a costal city in California. Three previous owners and 99,080 miles tells me this shouldn’t have sold for more than $10,000. And that’s being generous.

Advertisem*nt

What’s interesting about this auction is that compared to other Element listings on BaT, every single one looks to either be in better condition than this one with way less miles.
